“A Raisin In The Sun” is a play written by Lorraine Hansberry that first premiered on Broadway in 1959. The title, “A Raisin In The Sun”, comes from the poem “Harlem”, also known as “A Dream Deferred” by Langston Hughes. The story is about a black family’s experiences in the South Side of Chicago as they try to move to Clybourne Park, an entirely white neighborhood. They try to “better” themselves with an insurance check following the death of their father. This play sets the stage for multiple discussions about race in America and is still fit today. According to me, racial discrimination in “A Raisin In The Sun” is portrayed by the racism between white people and black people, and the racism amongst black people themselves.

Primarily, racial discrimination in “A Raisin In The Sun” is portrayed by the racism between white people and black people. For example, after the loss of her dear husband, Lena Younger is expecting an insurance check of a great amount. She want to use the money to buys a house for her family thus she puts a large down payment on a house in Clybourne Park. However, Lena doesn 't seem to realise that this house is in a neighborhood in which she and her family are not welcome, an entirely white neighborhood. A representative of the Clybourne Park Improvement Association, Karl Linder, visits their apartment to prevent the family from moving into their white neighborhood.
